Take a Second to Close Your Eyes and Do Nothing
When was the last time you weren’t doing something?
I got my haircut last week, and that was the first time I felt like I actually stopped moving in a while.
My mind is always on alert for what else I can tinker around with during the day, there’s not much stillness for me recently.
…back to the haircut…
When there’s somebody with a blade on your neck, it sort of forces you to the present moment. You’re not going to be jumping up to do anything. Your eyes are shut and all you can do at that moment is sit there.
So, while I sat there, I just sat there. It was amazing.
I’ve been neglecting downtime in my life lately in favor of accomplishing as much as possible. I don’t think I’ll ever slow down, but I can at least add in periods where I can center myself and stop for a second.
Having a routine with planned breaks has seriously helped me, but I’ve had trouble sticking to my schedule this month.
My girlfriend is the queen of ‘sacred spaces’ and has always set up altars. When I see her sit there, she always looks so relaxed…🧘.
I’ve never followed in her footsteps, but this week I plan on setting up a sort of altar in my house as a ‘landing page’ for my life.
I figure having a specific place to stop and organize my life could help.
I plan to create a ritual to prompt the following:
- brain dump
- organize daily tasks
Creating a space for yourself to decompress can allow your mind to let go and reset. If you try it out I’d love to hear how it goes!
