There Is Always Time for the World to Surprise You

I lost my wallet twice today.

I haven’t done that in forever, so it felt unusual. I started to get frustrated.

At first, I thought I must have thrown it away by accident.

Or, maybe it’s in the freezer?

It wasn’t, but I think it was once…

Anyways, for about an hour I went from my apartment to the car in a search for my wallet. All the while muttering how there was nowhere it could possibly be. On the way down to my car the last time, I thought, it has to be in the car. I had already searched the entire car. Twice.

But I was searching again, something told me it was in there. The two times and my certainty I had checked everywhere possible didn’t matter.

I found my wallet in the car.

My wallet was exactly where I hadn’t looked the first two times — the place I was sure it wasn’t. Behind the passenger’s seat on the floor.

Why? I’m not sure. I didn’t care!

I started to think how funny it was that if I would have stopped looking I wouldn’t have found it. I would have canceled my cards and made an appointment to go get a new license.

Maybe my mind is extra sensitive to the lessons of life since I’ve just started a new job hunt, but the process of finding my keys reminded me things pop up out of nowhere all the time.

I have to remind myself to continue looking in new places I’d never expect.

You might be certain, as I was on my way down to the car for the third time, that you know what you want to do — or don’t want to do. Picturing myself as a salesman makes me laugh… and that makes me wonder what unexpected things I would find if I took that path.

You really never know what you’ll find if you look in new places!

Keep yourself open.
